W9 to revive Come Dine With Me

French broadcaster M6 is moving its long-time access primetime show Come Dine With Me to its DTT channel W9.

Come Dine With Me (Un Diner Presque Parfait) aired for six years on M6 in early access primetime but was put on hold last spring after ratings slumped.

The channel said recently that the show would probably not return, as M6 had found success with Les Reines du Shopping, adapted by indie producer Hervé Hubert from Turkish format Shopping Monsters.

But yesterday W9 announced it will try to revive the brand by producing a daily series that will air in access primetime as early as January. The network said it also plans to air some specials.

Adapted in 2008 by M6 subsidiary Studio89, Come Dine With Me considerably improved the channel’s early access primetime performance with ratings of up to two million. It was also the first such show in access prime in France, and opened the doors to more factual entertainment in the zone on other channels, including TF1.

W9 needs an audience boost as its audience has fallen for the second year in a row. It achieved an average share of 2.6% for the first 11 months of this year, compared with 2.9% last year and 3.1% the year before.
