W dances to new commissions

UKTV’s premium entertainment channel W is expanding its roster of original programming with two original documentary series.

Dancing for the Weekend, produced by London-based Electric Ray, is a documentary that follows a selection of people who moonlight as amateur dancers at the weekend.

The 6×60’ series, which will air in 2017, was ordered by Steve North, general manager for W, and UKTV director of commissioning Richard Watsham.

The show was commissioned by Helen Nightingale while Meredith Chambers is executive producer for Electric Ray.

Meanwhile, UKTV has also ordered fly-on-the-wall documentary The Dressing Room (6×60’) for 2017.

The fixed-rig series, coproduced by STV Productions and GroupM Entertainment, gives viewers access to the dressing rooms of sports teams around the country.

North and Watsham again ordered the series, which was commissioned by senior commissioning editor Iain Coyle.

“Both The Dressing Room and Dancing for the Weekend will be strong partners for our existing W commission, mobile fixed-rig show Inside the Ambulance, which has just finished filming,” said Watsham.
