French entertainment conglomerate Vivendi is forming a new content division, with the CEO of its pay TV firm Canal+ brought in to oversee its operations.

Vivendi Contents will create and develop new formats in music and video with Rodolphe Belmer taking on responsibilities for music outfit UMG, production arm StudioCanal and other production divisions in addition to his existing role.

His promotion and the wider moves were discussed in an email to staff and reported by France’s BFM TV, along with plans to create a team capable of managing talent and rights to monetise content.

Vincent Bolloré, chairman at Canal+ owner Vivendi, said future content development, data and monetisation, Africa and co-operation ad projects were four areas the firm was prioritising.
