Virgin extends Worldbox channels offer

Liberty Global-owned Virgin Media is adding channels from Poland, France and Russia to its UK-based Worldbox app.

Virgin Media’s expats’ content app Worldbox

The service is designed to allow expats to stay up to date with programming from their home countries and follows the recent launch of international TV channels covering Spain and Portugal.

The new Polish Impreza collection will offer four channels including TVP Polonia, as well as commercial networks TVN International, ITVN Extra and Kino Polska International.

The French offering includes France 2, France 5 and Cartoon TV French, while the Russian selection ranges from factual net Planeta HD to kids’ channel Moolt.

Worldbox already offers Spanish nets including Antena 3, AtreSeries and TVE, while Portuguese channels such as TVI and Criança TV are also available. The packages range from £10 (US$12) per month for the Polish nets to £5.99 per month for the Spanish selection.

Virgin has been ramping up its TV operations over the past 12 months, appointing the former head of children’s TV at rival telecoms giant BT to the role of kids and music editor and signing multi-year programming deals with Viacom and Turner.
