Vimeo unveils original trio

VoD service Vimeo has become the latest online player to make a serious push into originals, announcing a slate of three new commissions.

Among the shows being greenlit is a second season of The Outs, a critically acclaimed web series from Adam Goldman and Sasha Winters. The six-part debut run first appeared on Vimeo in 2012 and follows the lives of young gay men trying to figure out where they’re going in life.

The series is produced by Vaughn Schoonmaker and Adam Goldman.

Darby Forever, Vimeo’s first original short film, from Saturday Night Live cast member Aidy Bryant, is also included. The plot follows a shop worker whose customers spark colourful daydreams as she looks for independence and love.

Rolodex of Hate Comedy Special: Live from Austin is Vimeo’s first original stand-up special. It stars Bianca Del Rio, the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race season six.

Vimeo had previously been based on helping independent creators sell their content directly, occasionally licensing originals on an exclusive basis. This is the first time the firm has commissioned and financed projects for its platform.

The three shows will premiere this winter exclusively on Vimeo on Demand.
