Viki hosts Asian, Lat Am nets

MIPCOM: Broadcasters from across Asia and Latin America have inked deals with international over-the-top service Viki to provide channel-specific areas on its site.

The service, which buys rights to local hits and crowd-sources the subtitles from its global community of fans, has launched Viki Brand Channels to allow nets to customise sections of the site with their own content, and access analytics.

Broadcasters include South Korea’s SBS Content Hub, Japan’s TV Asahi, Taiwan’s Sanlih E-Television, Venezuelan firm Venevision and Chinese prodco Huace Film & TV Co.

Razmig Hovaghimian, co-founder and CEO of Viki, said: “We’re launching Brand Channels for select broadcasters and studios that are already in our network and plan to make it available for others in the coming weeks and months.”

The service is backed by the UK’s BBC Worldwide, South Korea’s SK Telecom and several venture capital firms including Greylock Partners. It recently launched a Spanish-language version in Latin America.

The service recently launched a Spanish-language version in Latin America and can be viewed online or via numerous mobile systems, including Apple, Android and BlackBerry, plus Samsung smart TVs and Google TV.

It also syndicates its fan-subtitled shows to Hulu, Netflix, Amazon.com, MSN and Renren in China.
