Viceland ups unscripted exec

US cablenet Viceland has promoted an executive to help steer unscripted development for the Vice and A+E Networks joint venture.

Nomi Ernst Leidner is stepping up to serve as senior VP of development at Viceland, which launched in the US in February.

The role sees Ernst Leidner handle unscripted development for the network, working with the internal development team as well as third-party talent and producers.

She was previously an executive producer at the channel, overseeing series including Gaycation, States of Undress and Woman with Gloria Steinem.

Ernst Leidner and recently hired president of programming Nick Weidenfeld will collaborate with Viceland international creative director Cristián Jofré, co-presidents Spike Jonze and Eddy Moretti and general manager Guy Slattery.

Prior to joining the channel, Ernst Leidner was VP of development for MTV’s news and documentary division, working on a slate that included hit series such as Catfish.

She began her television career as a producer on CBS’s 48 Hours with Dan Rather.

Having already launched in the US, and in Canada with Rogers Media, Viceland will roll out in the UK and Ireland in September in partnership with Sky and in France later this year.

The Canadian version of the channel unveiled its first scripted comedy project earlier this week.
