Viasat World inks NBCU, Sony deals

European pay TV broadcaster Viasat World has secured deals with NBCUniversal and Sony Pictures for scripted Hollywood titles including Pure Genius, Grimm and House of Cards.

The package, which also includes Emerald City and Blacklist: Redemption, will have first-run broadcasts across Russia, CIS and Ukraine from January next year on Viasat World’s flagship movie channel TV1000 Premium HD.

Viasat World has also secured a two-year deal with Sony Pictures for 50 titles for TV1000 in Central Europe. The channel said it wants to continue investment in Russia and CIS, as well as Ukraine.

Past seasons of programmes will also be available through TV1000 Play’s online service, available to Viasat Premium HD subscribers.

Viasat World, which also picked up Croatian documentary Republika: The History of Dubrovnik this week, operates pay TV stations in 47 territories reaching Scandinavia, CEE, Russia, Turkey, Africa, Israel and the US.
