Viasat renews movie deals

Viasat Broadcasting has extended a string of output deals for films and television series for both its Scandinavian networks and online, with partners including NBCUniversal.

Parent company Modern Times Group oversaw the multi-year licensing agreements for content from NBCUniversal International Television Distribution (NBCUI), Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution, Nordisk Film and SF Film.

Two deals have been signed with NBCUI. The first is for exclusive free-TV rights in Sweden, Norway and Denmark for current and library movies, and scripted and unscripted series. It was agreed in partnership with the public broadcasters in each Scandinavian territory.

The second deal is for exclusive pay-TV and SVoD rights in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland for current and library film titles. They will be made available on premium pay-TV Viasat Film channels and online through Viaplay.

Viasat’s deal with Fox is for second pay-TV window rights, which includes access to films and catch-up rights to linear broadcasts on Viasat Film through Viaplay.

From SF, Viasat has secured exclusive pay-TV rights in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark for feature films produced and coproduced by SF Film (Svensk Filmindustri). Online and mobile rights are also included in the multi-year deal.

Viasat has also picked up exclusive first-run and library movies from Nordisk Film for its pay-TV channels across the region. Free-TV rights have also been acquired for first-run and library movies in Sweden, and library titles in Denmark.
