Viacom shakes up network groups

US media giant Viacom has restructured its three leading network groups and has handed more power to executives Doug Herzog and Cyma Zarghami to lead them.

MTV Networks Music & Logo Group, Entertainment Group and Kids & Family Group will now be consolidated into two under Entertainment Group president Herzog and Kids & Family president Zarghami.

Herzog will head the newly formed Viacom Music and Entertainment Group, which will consist of MTV, MTV2, Logo, VH1, Comedy Central and Spike, as well as related digital networks and MTV’s Always On.

Zarghami’s expanded Viacom Kids & Family Group will comprise the brands currently in the Nickelodeon Group, including Nickelodeon, Nick Jr, TeenNick, Nick at Nite, NickMom and NickToons, as well as TV Land, CMT and CMT Pure Country.

The moves come as two major figures at Viacom announced their departures this week.

Larry Jones, president of US cablenet TV land is leaving after 27 years, while fellow Viacom heavyweight Van Toffler revealed he would be quitting MTV after 28 years to start his own prodco.

Toffler’s MTV Networks Music & Logo Group has been split into two, with Herzog taking MTV, MTV2, Logo and VH1, and Zarghami adding CMT and CMT Pure Country to her remit.
