Viacom lines up original trio in Asia

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) has commissioned three new original shows for its MTV and Comedy Central channels in Asia.

The new additions include VIMN’s first original for Comedy Central Asia, titled Comedy Central Presents Stand-up Asia (8×30′), which will debut in August.

The series is a coproduction with comedy entertainment company LOL Events in Malaysia and will feature more than 20 comedians from countries such as India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

Paras Sharma, senior VP of MTV, Comedy Central and Paramount Channel, brands and digital media, Asia, said the format will enable VIMN to “promote local comedy and place a spotlight on talented comedians from around Asia.”

VIMN is also adding music video dance show Ok Danceoke and monthly series MTV Asia Spotlight, both of which will be produced for MTV Asia in Singapore.

wolf_creekWeekly half-hour programme Ok Danceoke features dance instructors breaking down the dance steps of popular music videos for viewers to learn at home.

MTV Asia Spotlight, meanwhile, gives audiences access to popular and up-and-coming acts from within Asia, showcasing the spotlighted artists’ music videos and other exclusive content.
