Hip Hop Squares is due to premiere this fall and will see celebrity contestants from the worlds of hip-hop and comedy test their pop culture knowledge.

Actor and former member of rap group NWA Ice Cube, aka O’Shea Jackson, will executive produce the series via his production outfit Cube Vision.

Entertainment industry veteran Jesse Collins will also executive produce the series alongside Jeff Kwatinetz’s production company The Firm. The format is distributed by CBS Distribution.

“Hip Hop Squares is going to be fun and spontaneous; unlike typical gameshows, viewers should never know what’s going to happen next,” said the rapper.

In related news, VH1’s fellow Viacom-owned network MTV has announced that from August 1, VH1 Classic will be known as MTV Classic.

The revamped network will air series and music programming drawn from across MTV’s history, focusing on the 1990s and early 2000s.

Programming from the vault set to feature on the channel includes Daria, Beavis & Butt-head, Aeon Flux, Run’s House, Pimp My Ride, Cribs, Jackass, Punk’d, Wonder Showzen and Clone High.
