Venevision hires director of content

Florida-based Venevision Productions has appointed Mexican actor and director Carlos Santos as head of its content and artistic development.

Santos, who has more than 25 years of experience in the entertainment business, will be based at Cisneros Media’s production studios in Miami and report directly to executive VP of operations, Juan Carlos Sosa.

Sosa said: “Among his new responsibilities, Carlos will oversee the design and development of stories and scripts, as well as the talent and casting departments, in addition to supervising the artistic direction of our productions.

“Carlos comes as part of the renewal process of the company’s talent, which I initiated immediately upon my appointment as head of the studios at the end of the past year.”

Santos has been a member of Venevision Productions’ directorial team since 2010 and worked on telenovelas including Eva Luna, El Talisman and Cosita Linda.

In Mexico, he worked for the Televisa group for more than 10 years as an actor, director and conductor, as well as a professor of theatre.

Venevision Productions moved under the Cisneros umbrella last year and was followed by a spate of senior management appointments.

This included the arrival of Sosa as VP of operations at Venevision Studios last November following the retirement of the division’s president and CEO Peter Tinoco.
