USA Network blesses Sinner

NBCUniversal-owned USA Network has ordered a new psychological crime drama starring Jessica Biel and Bill Pullman – its first pick-up of 2017.

The Sinner, based on Petra Hammesfahr’s book of the same name, tells the story of a young mother (Biel) who, overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, commits a startling act of violence she can’t explain.

An investigator (Pullman) becomes obsessed with uncovering the woman’s motive and together they embark on a journey into the depths of her psyche and secret past.

The limited anthology series will be produced by Universal Cable Productions. The pilot was written by executive producer Derek Simonds (When We Rise, The Astronauts’ Wives Club). Charlie Gogolak (This Is Us) will exec produce alongside Antonio Campos (Christine), who directed the pilot.

USA’s 2016/17 pilot slate also includes Damnation, directed by Hell or High Water’s David Mackenzie; Unsolved, a scripted true crime serial chronicling the police investigations into the murders of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls; and The Tap, from exec producers Andrew Lenchewski (Royal Pains); Rob Reiner and Alan Greisman (The Bucket List); and Charlie Ebersol (The Profit).
