USA gets Shooter in TV sights

USA Network has ordered a pilot of a TV version of Mark Wahlberg’s action movie Shooter.

The TV reboot, which will star Ryan Phillippe, is penned by John Hlavin and is based on the 2007 Paramount feature starring Wahlberg as well as Stephen Hunter’s novel Point of Impact.

The drama will centre on Phillippe’s character, a former Marine sniper who is brought back into action to thwart the killing of the President.

Wahlberg is executive producing alongside Hlavin, Stephen Levinson and Lorenzo di Bonaventura for Paramount TV and Universal Cable Productions. Simon Cellan Jones (Ballers) is set to direct the pilot.

Shooter marks USA’s fifth pilot order so far this year following Brooklyn Animal Control, Poor Richard’s Almanack, Falling Water and Paradise Pictures.
