US net lands plane crash series

A US broadcaster has secured rights to the factual series Mayday: Air Disaster from UK distributor Cineflix Rights.

Smithsonian Channel has acquired seasons three, four and 13 (34×60′) of the Cineflix-produced show, which investigates air crashes, near-crashes, hijackings, bombings and other aviation disasters.

Meanwhile, TVPuls in Poland has taken the first and second seasons of Dangerous Flights (18×60′), produced by Pixcom Productions.

Each episode follows aviation brokers, pilots and engineers as they fly high-priced private aircraft to buyers all around the world, often covering massive distances over areas where small aircraft are not meant to fly.

The sales came as Cineflix announced deals for more than 400 hours of programming with broadcasters around the world.

Polish broadcaster Spektrum TV has bought 60 hours of programming, including Pet School (20×30′) and The Man Who Doesn’t Breathe (2×60′), while in the US, Reelz has picked up seasons one and two of Final 24.

In the UK, Discovery has taken season two of Food Factory and UKTV has acquired season two of Surviving Evil, which is currently in production.

Both titles have also been bought by Discovery Europe, while in France, TF1 has bought seasons three, six and seven of Cold Blood.
