US cablenets pick TCB content

Weather Channel picked up The World’s Wildest Weather

MIPTV: US cablenets Science Channel, Smithsonian Channel and Weather Channel have picked up factual content from UK-based distributor TCB Media Rights as MipTV gets underway.

Discovery-owned Science Channel has commissioned a second season of Abandoned Engineering (16×60’) from Like a Shot Entertainment.

The series looks at spectacular engineering projects around the world that were started but never finished. The first season has been sold around the world by TCB.

Smithsonian, meanwhile, has acquired The Private Lives of Monarchs (5×60’), another Like A Shot production, which originally aired on UKTV, SBS in Australia and Viasat. The show dispels myths and looks at the real stories behind five iconic monarchs.

Finally, Weather Channel has licensed The World’s Wildest Weather (6×60’), which was produced by Title Role Productions for commissioning broadcasters Nine Network in Australia, Sky TV in New Zealand and RMC Découverte in France.

TCB founder Paul Heaney said: “These deals show TCB’s model, which is to co-create and co-invest in shows with producer partners that we know, trust and admire, is a highly effective way to deliver content that works for everybody, from the broadcaster to the viewer.”
