Univision, Dish ink carriage deal

US Hispanic broadcaster Univision Communications has signed a deal putting its channels and VoD content on pay-TV platform Dish’s Latino channel package.

The multi-year, multi-platform pact will see Dish launch Univision’s new networks – Univision Deportes, Univision tlnovelas and Univision Noticias – and offer exclusive access to Univision Deportes Dos.

In addition, the agreement includes distribution of the flagship Univision network, TeleFutura, Galavisión and a suite of six TV channel offerings – De Película, De Película Clásico, Bandamax, Ritmoson, Telehit and Clásico TV.

Under the deal Univision will also supply “thousands of hours” of telenovelas and Spanish-language movies for inclusion in Dish’s Blockbuster @Home VoD package.

Dave Shull, senior VP of programming at the platform said: “This deal for exclusive linear and VoD content from Univision provides our customers with the broadest selection of top quality Spanish-language content.”

Univision tlnovelas is dedicated to telenovelas and its schedule is filled with series from Mexico’s Televisa. Univision Noticias is a news and current affairs net, while Univision Deportes and Univision Deportes Dos are sports channels, the latter carrying programming from Mexico’s Televisa Deportes.
