UKTV revs up car buying series

UK multi-channel broadcaster UKTV has ordered a new car-themed series for its entertainment network Dave.

Modern Wheels or Classic Steals (20×30’) will see prospective car buyers draw on help from presenters Rebecca Jackson (I Want That Car) and Elo, owner of the London Motor Museum and a classic car enthusiast, in deciding the ideal automobile on which to spend their money. While Jackson aims to convince the buyer to purchase a modern vehicle, Elo lobbies for a classic choice.

The original series was commissioned by UKTV’s Richard Watsham, director of commissioning; Steve North, general manager of comedy and entertainment; and Iain Coyle, senior commissioning editor. It is produced by UK indie Cactus TV with Simon Ross, the prodco’s co-founder, serving as exec producer.

Modern Wheels or Classic Steals will air on Dave later this year and will also be available on VoD service UKTV Play. It follows a number of recent originals commissions for Dave by UKTV including comedian Alex Horne’s special The Horne Section.

Earlier this month, UKTV appointed ITV Studios exec Ronan Hand to the newly created role of director of programme funding to grow its original IP and commissions.
