Ukraine adopts Nippon’s Mother

Nippon TV format Mother has already been sold into Turkey and South Korea

MIPTV: Female-skewing Ukrainian channel STB has picked up format rights to Nippon TV’s child abuse drama Mother.

The deal marks the first time a Japanese drama will be adapted in Ukraine. It is also Nippon’s third format sale for the 11×60’ series, following deals with South Korea’s CJ E&M last fall and Turkey’s MF Yapim and Medyapim for Star TV in 2016. MF Yapim also adapted Nippon’s drama Woman – My Life for My Children for Fox Turkey.

The deal was struck by Atsushi Hatayama, president of international business development for Nippon TV and STB’s head of programming Ekaterina Shevelyuk, who said the drama’s “original ideas and unique hooks” resonate across society, regardless of mentality or language.

Mother is one of several scripted shows Nippon is shopping at MipTV, including its latest drama Anone (10×60’).
