UK producers dominate kids Emmys

UK producers practically swept the board at the International Emmy Kids Awards in New York last night, scooping the top prizes in four out of the six categories.

Winning programmes included Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom, from Peppa Pig producers Astley Baker Davies, in the preschool category, while Room on the Broom, from Magic Light Pictures, took the best animation award.

Meanwhile, factual show Same But Different, produced by Libra Television and David & Goliath, won in its category, and Cineflix Productions UK’s non-scripted format Pet School fought off competition from Japan, Sweden and Belgium.

Other winners on the night included Brazilian drama series Pedro & Bianca, which aired on TV Cultura and follows a pair of non-identical twins, one of whom is black and the other white.

Elsewhere, Canadian production company Dream Street Pictures won in the miniseries category with teen drama The Phantoms, which tells the story of a high school basketball team on the road to glory in the face of adversity.
