UCP forges Hitchcock TV deal

The producer of USA Network’s Mr Robot is developing an anthology series inspired by the work of legendary horror movie director Alfred Hitchcock.

Universal Cable Productions (UCP) has signed a development deal with Alfred Hitchcock Estate to produce Welcome to Hitchcock, which will reimagine classic Hitchcock tales.

UCP will work on the project with Chris Columbus’ 1492 Pictures/Ocean Blue Entertainment and Vermilion Entertainment, which was recently formed by the founders of US movie studio Cross Creek Pictures.

Columbus, producer Michael Barnathan, Timmy Thompson and Todd Thompson will serve as executive producers along with the family of the English film director.

Renowned filmmakers and talent will be sought to pay homage to the spirit of Hitchcock’s style and legacy in the series, according to the producers.

“Long after his death, Alfred Hitchcock continues to be one of the most celebrated directors and visionaries in the world, a master manipulator of the macabre,” said Dawn Olmstead, executive VP of development, UCP.
