Tyrant demands second season

US cablenet FX has ordered a second season of Tyrant, its political drama from the co-creators of the hit series Homeland.

Tyrant, created by Gideon Raff, follows the son of a dictator who returns to his war-torn nation after a self-imposed exile in the US only to find himself at the centre of a political maelstrom.

FX has ordered 13 more episodes of the series, which is produced by Fox 21 and FX Productions. Work on the second season is scheduled to begin next spring for a summer 2015 premiere.

Homeland showrunner Howard Gordon serves as executive producer of the show, along with Teakwood Lane Productions, the prodco he set up at 20th Century Fox Television.

Raff created the Israeli show Prisoners of War on which Homeland was based, while Gordon developed the US version for Showtime.
