TV2 picks up Pottery Throw Down

BBC2’s The Great Pottery Throw Down

Danish broadcaster TV2 has picked up a UK factual entertainment competition format based around the art of pottery.

The Great Pottery Throw Down (8×60’) is an original format from UK-based Love Productions, which created other hit primetime formats The Great British Bake Off and The Great British Sewing Bee.

The Danish series will be made by Strong Productions and is due to air on TV2 in 2019.

The Great Pottery Throw Down follows a national search for the best amateur pottery talent. It presents 10 passionate potters as they compete in a series of challenges that require them to produce everything from simple pots to lavatories.

Two seasons of the original UK show were produced for BBC2, with viewing figures peaking at over three million. The launch episode secured a 21% increase in the slot average for 18-49 viewers. Sky Vision, the production and distribution arm of satcaster Sky, sold the format rights to TV2 Denmark.

The TV2 judging panel will include contemporary ceramist master Michael Geersten, who exhibits at the Metropolitan in New York.
