TV One rethinks leadership

US cablenet TV One has named an interim general manager following president Brad Siegel’s decision to step down.

Michelle Rice

Executive VP of content distribution and marketing Michelle Rice will take up the role on a temporary basis.

It comes after Siegel recently informed TV One’s parent company Urban One of his decision to depart the firm after two-and-a-half years.

Rice will have full management oversight of the 13-year-old entertainment and lifestyle network, which targets black adults.

Rice was one of the inaugural employees of TV One, initially being hired as the VP of distribution strategy and operations. She was later promoted to senior VP and ultimately upped to executive VP of content distribution and marketing.

She has previously held roles covering affiliate sales and marketing at BET, NBC Cable Networks and iNDemand.

TV One airs shows including Unsung, Rickey Smiley For Real and Empire. Last year it commissioned its first original drama series, Sneaker Pawn, and signed a multi-year deal to exclusively develop scripted programming with Atlanta-based production company Swirl Films.
