TV deal for Zynga drawing app

MIPTV: Draw Something, the game app from Farmville developer Zynga Games, has been picked up for a TV adaptation by Channel 4 in the UK.

With Sony Pictures Television selling the format here in Cannes, the UK pubcaster has ordered a series from indie Victory Television called Draw It!. The game was turned into a TV format by Zynga, Ryan Seacrest Productions and Embassy Row in the US.

Victoria Ashbourne, MD of Victory, said Draw Something was “one of the biggest hits in app history to date” and said the show “will really tap into that with a race against the clock and plenty of humour.”

Draw It! will feature two teams – one of contestants and one of celebs – competing to draw things. Draw Something was developed by Omgpop and both the game and the developer were acquired by Zynga a year ago for US$180m. Last year, Zynga and Hasbro released a boardgame based on the app.
