The 150-episode series first launched on Argentinian channel América 2 in 2007. It follows a chauvinist magazine editor who is turned into a woman by a witch, and is based on an idea by Sebastian Ortega for Underground Contenidos.

The finished version has sold to more than 120 countries and has previously been adapted in Russia by CTC and in Greece by Antenna.

Dori Media CEO Nadav Palti said he believed the format had “the potential to completely redefine the changing role of strong women in society in these exciting times,” adding that he expected to see more remakes.

TV Azteca’s deputy to the president, Joshua Mintz, said Lalola was in tune with TV Azteca’s own evolution. “Benjamín Salinas, CEO of TV Azteca, has taken the lead to shape a new era of television in Mexico by getting the audience the best content… because that’s what we as an audience want to see,” he added.

In related news, Dori has picked up the rights to distribute the second season of drama El Marginal, having previously sold season one to Canal+ in France among others.

The drama is a coproduction between Underground Producciones and Medios Públicos.
