Tuvalu acquires Column Film

Netherlands-based indie Tuvalu Media is growing its scripted ambitions after acquiring the production outfit behind drama 2/11 Het spel van de Wolf, which aired on NPO.

Producer Column Film was founded in 1999 and is known for feature films including Interview, Terug naar de Kust and Matterhorn, as well as factual shows such as The New Rijksmuseum. It will continue to operate independently within Tuvalu, with Gijs van de Westelaken as MD.

Taco Zimmerman, Tuvalu’s founder and MD, said: “Column is a creative drama producer with an enormous variety in scripted content.”

Tuvalu previously acquired drama-skewing prodco Waterland Film in 2010 and Zimmerman said the deal would allow the firm to “produce all variations within the scripted genre” and target subscription VoD services.

Van de Westelaken added: “In the past few years we have built a good connection with Tuvalu. Tuvalu has a strong position in the market and with that support Column will extend and enlarge its activities.”

Tuvalu was founded in 2006 and has produced series including Maestro, Cover Me, Who Is My Family, The Orchestra of the Nation, Holiday SOS and The First Years. It was formerly part of Sony before being bought out again by its founders in 2013.
