Turner Broadcasting System has picked up a new version of animated adventure series Gormiti for its channels in EMEA.

Giochi Preziosi, the Italian toy firm behind the original Gormiti figurines upon which the toon is based, has coproduced new episodes, alongside compatriot Mondo TV, producer of girls-skewing toon Puppy in My Pocket.

The new 52×22′ series uses scripts from US prodco Man of Action (Ben 10) and is titled Gormiti: Nature Unleashed. According to Michelle Azoury, head of sales and brand manager at Mondo TV, it “does not discount the earlier series but does not directly address it either.”

Zodiak Media-owned Marathon Media previously produced three seasons (totalling 65×26′) of Gormiti between 2008 and 2011, which Zodiak Kids continues to distribute.

The earlier series launched on Italy’s Mediaset and also aired on Turner-owned Cartoon Network in the US and Disney XD in Latin America.

Marathon and Zodiak have no involvement in the new Mondo-produced and -distributed episodes, which are similarly aimed at boys aged six to 11. The first of these will debut on Turner’s kidsnet Boing in Spain and Italy later this year, before launching on Cartoon Network in 130 territories across EMEA in 2013.

Enrico Preziosi, chairman of Giochi Preziosi, said the partnership with Mondo TV will “refresh and renew” the brand.

Cecilia Persson, VP of acquisitions at Turner EMEA, added the new Gormiti “fits well with the aspirational action-adventure content currently broadcast on our networks.”
