Turner Asia takes WarnerTV control

Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific is to assume full control of fellow Time Warner imprint WarnerTV in the region.

The deal will see Turner take full operational responsibility for WarnerTV’s programming, distribution, advertising sales and marketing.

The pan-Asian channel, which offers viewers US series and films from the Warner Bros Entertainment catalogue, will now be added to Turner’s Asia Pacific offering.

Turner has pledged to double the number of first-run series on WarnerTV in 2014 and increase programming hours by 30 per cent, though there will be no immediate alterations to the branding or positioning of the channel.

US dramas including Almost Human, Arrow, Longmire and Person of Interest are already slated to premiere on the network alongside returning hits The Mentalist, Without a Trace and Vampire Diaries.

In May the channel will premiere box office hit Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

WarnerTV launched in the region in 2010 as a joint venture between stablemate Turner and Warner Bros and is currently available in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Palau, Cambodia and Papua New Guinea.
