Turkish format for Germany, France

German channel Sat.1 and production outfit Shine in France are the latest companies to show interest in Turkish drama format The End.

Scandinavian distributor Eccho Rights has closed deals across Europe for the format as it continues its focus on Turkish drama.

The End has been optioned by German producers UFA, which will develop the series for ProSiebenSat.1’s channel Sat.1.

In France, the format has been picked up by Shine, which has already worked on remakes of hit UK drama series Broadchurch and Scandinavian series The Bridge and will now develop The End for French audiences.

Meanwhile, SVoD platform Netflix has signed a non-exclusive agreement with Eccho for the series on its Swedish and UK sites.

The End was originally produced by Turkish prodco Ay Yapim and has been sold as a completed programme into 35 territories. Fox in the US is also developing a version and Russian World Studios has taken format rights.

The series tells the story of an Istanbul man whose wife is stricken with grief when he is apparently killed in a plane crash, only to discover he never boarded the flight. She must untangle a web of lies and deceit to find her husband.

Eccho Rights is the distribution arm of Sparks Eccho Group and opened a new hub in Istanbul in October to focus on the burgeoning Turkish drama market.
