Turkey adopts Nippon’s Son

MF Yapim and Medyapim have both taken rights to My Son

ATF: Turkey will become the first country to produce a local remake of Japanese drama My Son after two production companies acquired rights from domestic broadcaster Nippon TV.

My Son, which has been picked up by MF Yapim and Medyapim, follows three women who learn what it takes to become a mother amidst the struggles and pain of a kidnapping.

It marks the third deal between the producers and Nippon following the 2016 remake of Mother, known as Anne in Turkey, and Woman – My Life For My Children, which was produced in 2017 and known locally as Kadin.

The show is one of six on Nippon TV’s slate at Mipcom in October and was originally produced by Japanese director Yuko Hazeyama.

Atsushi Hatayama, president of international business development for Nippon, said: “We believe one of the key factors of our dramas’ strengths lie in the portrayal of female characters living strongly in the modern world. My Son is another example of our finest dramas utilising that very theme.”

Faruk Bayhan, president of MF Yapim, said he expected this latest deal to replicate the success of the previous deals.

MF Yapım was founded by Faruk Bayhan and Fatih Aksoy in 2012.
