TRX adds BBCWW for launch

David Frank launched TRX with his brother Matthew

The RightsXchange (TRX), the online TV rights portal created by Matthew and David Frank, is opening for business today with the entire BBC Worldwide catalogue added to its platform.

The Frank brothers, who founded RDF Media and also previously worked for Zodiak Media, created the deal-making tool in 2015. It enables rights deals to be competed online and allows distributors to reach buyers in new international markets, which in turn get access to rights that would otherwise have been difficult to secure.

BBCWW will make its entire online catalogue of 9,500 titles of drama, factual, entertainment and children’s (including the latest releases) available on the system and will roll it out progressively to international buyers over the coming year.

Other early adopters such as Sky Vision, All3Media International and Discovery Communications have now been joined by companies including Antenna Group, Bloomberg, Earth Touch, Escapade Media, Lightning International, Orange Smarty and 3DD Group.

The global launch of TRX follows the completion of an 18-month beta phase.

TRX has so far attracted investment in excess of £11m from individuals and strategic investors including VC Edge Investments, Channel 4 and Sky, the latter most recently doubling its exposure with a further £1m (US$1.31) of funding last month.
