TruTV gets in on magic act

US cablenet TruTV has become the latest channel to commission a street magic series, slating Undercover Magic (working title) for summer 2014.

The 12-part series is being produced by Fields Entertainment and 11 Television with Simon Fields and Kevin Healey executive producing.

The programme features comic magician Michael Carbonaro performing baffling tricks on unsuspecting members of the public and catching them on hidden cameras.

It will form part of TruTV’s Funseekers strand of programming that already includes Killer Karaoke and Impractical Jokers.

The Turner-owned channel is the latest network to turn to street magic for a new commission.

Discovery Networks International recently acquired Zig Zag Productions’ Troy from Endemol, while US cablenet A&E has commissioned an original 13-part magic series featuring magician Andrew Mayne.

UKTV’s Watch channel, which already airs Dynamo: Magician Impossible, greenlit The Happenings, from the team that works on Derren Brown’s Channel 4 stunts, at the end of October.
