Travel Channel aims Arrow on Rico

US cablenet Travel Channel has commissioned a new series from London-based indie Arrow Media following the authorities charged with monitoring traffic between Puerto Rico and the US.

Border Rico (6×30’) is based in Puerto Rico and focuses on the agents and investigators charged with securing its immigration and imports to the US.

The authorities on the island have to deal with drug and weapons smugglers on a daily basis and Travel Channel will follow their work.

Tom Brisley, Arrow Media creative director, said: “Filming on America’s most vulnerable border has been an eventful and exciting production challenge, enabling us to get very close to some exceptional stories.

“Securing access to, and developing a close working relationship with, agencies manning the US border and the US Coast Guard has brought us close to gun dealers, illegal immigrants and a wide range of scenarios which play out on Puerto Rico’s front lines.”

The series is executive produced by Nick Metcalfe at Arrow Media and Travel Channel’s Bill Howard.

The commission joins Arrow Media’s fast-growing US and international slate which also includes National Geographic Channel and Channel 4’s ambitious Live from Space project announced earlier this month.
