Transatlantic drama venture unveiled

MIPTV: Companies from Germany, Canada and the US have set up a joint venture to develop and produce TV programming for the global market.

Toronto-based Copperheart Entertainment, newly formed Remstar Studios in LA and Munich-based Palatin Media are teaming up, with the resulting shows being distributed by the German firm.

The first production under the JV will be the one-hour supernatural drama series Incarnate, which Copperheart’s Steve Hoban and Remstar Studios’ Clark Peterson are executive producing with horror writer Clive Barker (Hellraiser).

“What makes this joint venture exciting is the ability to put together productions with top North American and European talent, in collaboration with dynamic producers such as Clark and Steve,” said Palatin CEO and former Telemunchen chief Bernd Schlötterer.

“Being based in Los Angeles, Toronto, and Munich gives us a collective connection to the markets in North America and Europe, as well unique access to financing and talent in all these regions,” added Hoban.

Hoban and Peterson are currently developing Shakedown at HBO with director David Fincher and writer James Ellroy, and Peterson is producing two pilots for CBS, including Taxi-22, based on the French-Canadian series of the same name.

Copperheart recently completed production on the first season of Darknet, a horror anthology co-created by Vincenzo Natali and based on a successful Japanese series, which was sold to Netflix.

Palatin is here in Cannes shopping both Incarnate and Darknet.
