Trace doubles up in Africa

Modern Times Group-owned lifestyle network Trace Sport Stars is expanding its reach in Africa by launching in two countries in the region.

The sports channel, part of France-based Trace Group, will be carried on pay TV platform TVCABO in Angola and Mozambique after the two firms agreed a partnership.

Trace, which already broadcasts its Portuguese music channel Toca in Angola and Mozambique, will also launch a French feed of Trace Urban in the countries to run alongside the existing Portuguese version.

Laurent Dumeau, CEO of Trace Sport Stars and senior VP of distribution, said expanding further into Africa “remains a number one priority” for the company.

Trace Group was acquired by Scandinavian broadcaster Modern Times Group in February, and recently agreed a carriage deal with South East European telecommunications firm United Group.
