Spin Master-owned app producer Toca Boca has rolled out its fledgling SVoD app around the world, making it available in more than 150 countries.

Toca TV is available for iPad and iPhone via Apple’s App Store and features a mix of exclusive original video content alongside curated shortform content from the web.

C21 revealed last month the company was aiming to roll out its SVoD app in more countries this year as it goes up against the likes of Netflix, YouTube Kids, Sky Kids and BBC iPlayer.

The company has done deals with more than 75 independent creators and multi-channel networks, including DreamWorksTV, Studio 71 and BroadbandTV to license third-party content for the SVoD app.

Toca TV subscribers will also have access to exclusive shows hosted by children and animated originals produced and directed by Toca Boca for US$4.99 per month after a free trial.

Aimed at five- to nine-year-olds, the ad-free app also allows kids to use a device’s recording tools to create their own videos.

Toca Boca, which was founded in Stockholm in 2010 and has released more than 30 children’s apps, was acquired by Canadian toyco and Paw Patrol producer Spin Master earlier this year.

The Toca TV app has been available in Canada, Australia and New Zealand since June following a soft launch and is now available in Toca’s main markets, which include the US, UK and Scandinavia.

“Looking beyond digital toys, video is such an important part of kids’ culture we knew it was something we had to explore. Toca TV takes the essence of Toca Boca from digital toys to a world of playful video,” said Björn Jeffery, CEO and co-founder of Toca Boca.
