TNT drops Dallas reboot

US cablenet TNT has pulled the plug on its updated version of 1980s primetime soap Dallas after a three-season run.

Dallas, produced by Warner Horizon Television, returned to television in summer 2012 with a 10-episode season and pulled in 6.9 million viewers for its double-bill premiere.

The series continued the tale of the original soap of the same name and brought back several actors from the first series, including Larry Hagman, who died during production in 2012.

However ratings declined over the three seasons, dropping to 1.92 viewers during the third run and the show has now been axed. In response, around 20,000 fans have created a Save Dallas petition to bring back the series for a fourth season.

The original Dallas lasted 14 seasons on US network CBS, running from 1978 to 1991. Channel 5 in the UK was among the international broadcasters to take the reboot.
