TMG lands Load stake

Germany’s Tele München Group (TMG) has taken a stake in Load Studios, the digital content prodco and distributor set up by former Endemol Shine exec Georg Ramme.

Under the agreement, TMG and Munich-based Load will work closely together to expand TMG’s digital output and seek out new revenue streams in this area.

The “substantial minority stake” marks another step from TMG into the digital sphere, following the output deal it signed with Amazon Prime Video last year.

TMG MD Herbert L Kloiber said the company was keen to take advantage of “all the new opportunities that arise from creating innovative content for the digital markets.”

Ramme stood down as global MD of Endemol Shine Group digital division Endemol Beyond in 2016 to found Load.

As the partnership is in it is early stages, there are no specific details about joint projects, but TMG told C21 Load is currently working on a new digital format for kids, which will be announced around the time of next month’s Mipcom market.

The company specialises in producing branded content, social videos and social live productions, as well as helping develop content based on audience data.

Load is behind online children’s channel Wiggi Wiggi, which features shortform and premium videos aimed at six- to nine-year-olds. It has also worked on Instastyle.tv, a coproduction project with Dentsu Aegis-owned The Story Lab that curates the latest trends among ‘influencers’ on social media platform Instagram. It has also run a Facebook Live campaign for Burger King.

Ramme will continue to oversee all of Load’s operational tasks, while Bernd Wendeln, TMG’s head of corporate development and mergers and acquisitions, will serve as chairman of Load Studio’s board.

TMG made further inroads into the international market with the recent investment in US-based rights brokerage and production house Storied Media Group.
