TLC takes Cheapskates to series

Female-skewing lifestyle network TLC has ordered one of its one-hour specials on thrifty Americans to an eight-part series.

Extreme Cheapskates made its debut as a one-hour one-off on TLC in the US in December. Prodco Stephen David Entertainment has now been commissioned to make the show into a series to air later in the summer.

The 8×30′ series will focus on people who go to remarkable lengths to save money for themselves and their families and is currently casting for characters.

The one-off focussed on four ‘cheapskates’ who would stop at nothing to save money, including eating food destined for the trash and reusing toilet wipes. It was watched by 1.6 million people.
