Time Inc preps free streamer

US media giant Time Inc is prepping a streaming service that will offer ad-supported programming about celebrities, pop culture and human-interest topics.

The People/Entertainment Weekly Network will be free to access and will offer original longform series, specials and live event coverage.

It has been scheduled to launch this fall across digital platforms and devices with more than 100 hours of original programming, including daily new content, and a library of more than 50 hours of shows.

Rich Battista, president, Time Inc Entertainment and Sports Group and Video, added: “The People/Entertainment Weekly Network will distinguish itself by being the first free-to-consumer, advertiser-supported OTT service in the entertainment news category, creating original programming specifically designed for the lean-back, longform environment.

“We are confident this network, anchored by the unparalleled access and storytelling prowess of the iconic People and EW brands, will prove to be a major new addition to the OTT space.”
