The Flash lights up Foxtel

Australian pay TV platform Foxtel has acquired a host of US scripted shows for its networks, including superhero saga The Flash and comedy-drama Jane the Virgin.

The Flash, produced by Warner Bros, is a spin-off from Arrow and tells the story of a scientist who gains the ability to move at high speed and decides to use his new power to fight crime.

Jane the Virgin, from CBS Studios, follows a conscientious, ambitious young woman whose meticulous life plans are turned upside down when she is accidentally artificially inseminated during a routine check-up at the doctors.

Both shows, which are set to debut on The CW in the US, will premiere on Fox8 in Australia in December.

Meanwhile, Foxtel’s SoHo channel has picked up 20th Century Fox’s drama Rush, about a freelance doctor who works for clients on the fringes of society, as well as AMC Network’s The Divide.

The Leftovers and Olive Kitteridge, both acquired as part of Foxtel’s deal with US network HBO, will air on Showcase. Foxtel has also added CBS’s apocalyptic drama The Messengers, horror series Penny Dreadful and comedy duo Fresh Off The Boat and Cristela, with broadcast details yet to be announced.
