The Code moves to France, Canada

Broadcasters in France and Canada have picked up Australian political thriller The Code from London-based sales house DCD Rights, which is also launching a new Australasian series at Mipcom.

Arte France has picked up the 6×60’ series for Germany and French- and German-speaking Europe, while RUV in Iceland, ARTV Canada and Lumiere Benelux have also acquired the show.

The Code, which premiered yesterday on ABC in Australia, was previously acquired by the UK’s BBC Four, DirecTV for Audience Network in the US and Sundance Channel Latin America. The show, which stars Lucy Lawless and Aden Young, is produced by Playmaker Media.

In Cannes next month, DCD Rights will launch a brand new drama The Gods of Wheat Street.

The 6×60’ series looks at the lives and humour of the Freeburn clan, a modern Aboriginal family of local legends. The series is produced by Every Cloud Productions for the ABC, with funding from Screen Australia and the Screen NSW Regional Filming Fund.

Other Australasian productions from DCD Rights available at Mipcom include two new 1×90’ dramas from Banijay’s Screentime New Zealand: How To Murder Your Wife and Venus & Mars.
