TF1 doc celebrates France World Cup win

France beat Croatia to win the World Cup on Sunday

French pubcaster TF1 is to air a documentary that takes viewers behind the scenes of the country’s triumph at this summer’s Fifa World Cup.

Les Bleus 2018, Au Cœur de l’Épopée Russe (Blues 2018, At the Heart of the Russian Epic, 1×120’) is a coproduction between Federation Entertainment and Yvette Production.

The doc has been directed by Emmanuel Le Ber and Théo Schuster, who spent more than two months with the national team with support from the French Football Federation.

It will air on TF1 as a two-hour primetime special tonight and will then follow as a 4×30’ series on Amazon Prime Video in France.

Amazon has acquired second-window rights in France from July 20 and first-window rights in the rest of the world. The show will be available to stream on Amazon internationally from October 1, except in Brazil where it will be released on January 1.

The programme offers an insider’s view into France’s preparation of the tournament and the team’s progress to the final from the perspective of the squad, staff and coach Didier Deschamps.

It represents a shift into the premium factual market from Pascal Breton and Lionel Uzan’s Federation, which has previously been known for premium drama and youth-skewing productions.
