Terminator: rise of machinima

Fox may have canned the Sarah Connor Chronicles but the Terminator franchise has spawned another spin-off – a long-form machinima drama series backed by Warner Bros and distributed online.

Terminator Salvation: The Machinima Series is a six-parter shot within the video game that accompanies the latest movie and is debuting on Apple iTunes, Amazon Video on Demand, Xbox Live and the Sony PlayStation Network.

The series is produced by Terminator franchisee The Halcyon Company, McG and Warner Premiere – the digital content arm of the US studio behind the Sarah Connor Chronicles and Salvation’s stateside release. Episodes cost US$1.99 for standard definition and US$2.99 for HD.

The parties involved described the project as the first long-form dramatic machinima series produced by a major studio. Warner Premiere president Diane Nelson said machinima was “the next generation of storytelling.”
