Australia’s Network Ten is to revive popular FremantleMedia gameshow Family Feud for its early evening weekday schedule later this year.

The broadcaster has confirmed that TV presenter Grant Denyer will front a local version of the gameshow to air at 18.00 on weeknights, the slot is currently occupied by US sitcom Modern Family.

Produced by FremantleMedia Australia, the US format sees two families of four go head-to-head answering simple questions that have been put to 100 people to find the most popular responses.

Ten will be the third Aussie network to take Family Feud. The show ran on Nine from 1977 to 1984 and on Seven from 1989 to 1996. There was also a short-lived spin-off version in 2006 titled Bert’s Family Feud.

Beverley McGarvey, Ten’s chief programming officer, said: “Our research shows Australians want Family Feud back on their screens. We know interest in the show has not waned. Since the US version of Family Feud was revamped in 2010, its YouTube channel in the US has had more than three million views in Australia.”

The news comes two weeks after the network axed [1] its fledgling breakfast show Wake Up; its early morning, 11.00 and late-night news; and 150 staff.
