El Recluso (The Inmate) is about a former marine who enters a maximum security prison in a bid to investigate the abduction of the daughter of a US judge.

It is based on the eponymous format from Argentina’s Underground Producciones and Radio y Televisión Argentina, which is sold by Dori Media.

Telemundo’s Spanish-language version will air this summer in the US and will be sold internationally.

The show, which is being produced in Mexico, has Jaimes Reynoso (Shooter) attached as director of photography and will star Argentinian actor Ignacio Serricchio (Lazaro Mendoza) and Mexican actress Ana Claudia Talancón (Frida).

Marcos Santana, president of Telemundo International Studios, said: “It is greatly rewarding to see our first production meet the high standards we set for ourselves when we founded Telemundo International Studios.”

Telemundo International Studios was founded in 2016 to produce programming to meet growing demand in international markets and from emerging platforms for high-end, short-format scripted series.

It works in collaboration with Telemundo Studios, the network’s US production unit, which produces an average of 800 hours of programming per year, including El Señor de los Cielos.

The divisions are part of Telemundo Global Studios, which was unveiled yesterday and encompasses Telemundo Studios, Telemundo International Studios and Telemundo International, plus all of the company’s coproduction partnerships.
