Telemundo snags Seoane for drama

US Hispanic broadcaster Telemundo has agreed an exclusive deal with Mexican actress and singer Mariana Seoane to star in a drama spun off from El Señor de los Cielos.

El Chema will explore the life of a fledgling criminal who goes on to become a cartel leader in El Señor de los Cielos. Produced by Telemundo’s studio arm, the show will be distributed by Telemundo Internacional.

The multi-year exclusive deal will see Seoane make her first appearance in a Telemundo show, with filming set to start in the fall.

El Señor de los Cielos, written by Luis Zelkowicz, is into its fourth season and won the 2014 International Emmy Award for non-English language US primetime show.

Earlier this year Telemundo’s studio arm rejigged its management team as part of a restructure under president Luis Silberwasser.
