Telemundo hears The Voice

The US version of The Voice

US Hispanic broadcaster Telemundo has ordered a Spanish-language version of singing talent show format The Voice.

The Voice was created by John de Mol, founder of Dutch giant Talpa Media, which holds the rights to the format. De Mol will executive produce alongside Telemundo’s Cisco Suarez plus Stijn Bakkers and Tim van Rongen.

Telemundo’s version is being produced by the network with Talpa Media USA, Warner Horizon Unscripted and Alternative Television.

The order follows the success of four seasons of The Voice Kids on Telemundo since 2013. The adult version of the show will air next year.

The Voice has become a worldwide hit, with 67 local versions airing in more than 180 countries.

The format sees four judges from the world of music choose contestants to coach purely on their voices rather than their physical appearance. Global Latin pop singer Luis Fonsi is the first judge confirmed for Telemundo’s version of the show.
